Summer Art Camp Counsellor Position

Wage: $17.20/hr, 35 hrs/wk

The position supports the Visual Art Centre of Clarington in providing meaningful and engaging summer camp programming to kids ages 5-13. The person will facilitate art activities and supervise campers for the duration of the VAC summer camp.
This position offers hands-on experience for individuals interested in arts education, visual arts, art history, or cultural administration. Working within a not-for-profit gallery environment, the successful candidate will gain practical insight into the day-to-day operations of a contemporary arts organization, with a focus on arts education programming.
The role provides opportunities to develop teaching skills, support creative learning, and contribute to a collaborative team environment. Candidates will build confidence and leadership abilities while engaging directly with participants and helping to foster creativity and growth in a supportive setting.
Duties include:
To work with the Education Coordinator to develop and facilitate interactive arts-based summer camp programming
To support contracted professional artists and educators
To liaise with parents/guardians and document feedback.
To manage and supervise youth volunteers assisting with camp.
To be a positive and productive team member.
To promote VAC programming to the community.
To meet with and report to supervisors (Education Coordinator, Executive Director) regularly to monitor job performance, expectations and results
Requirements:
Currently enrolled in Arts Education, Visual Studies, Art History, or Arts Management, or a related field.
Returning to full-time studies in the Fall.
Experience working with children in an educational, gallery, studio, or camp setting.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with Camp and VAC staff.
Ability to work independently and within a team.
Ability to understand educational objectives and lead a team to deliver high-quality experiences.
Ability to work all 9 weeks (mandatory).
Valid Police Vulnerable Sector Check (For applicants who are 18+).
Knowledge of studio materials, fine art education, first aid, and a valid driver's license are also an asset
