Recreation Activity Leader

13-week position

Wage: $17.20/hr for 37.5 hrs/wk

This position is supported through the Young Canada Works in Heritage Program. The VAC is searching for an energetic and skilled Recreation Activity Leader to join our team at our 2025 Summer Art Camp. The candidate will play a crucial role in creating a dynamic and supportive environment for campers aged 5-13 through our camp programming. The candidate will have a deep understanding of game and recreation planning, engagement strategies and a commitment to fostering an inclusive and safe environment for all children.

Responsibilities include leading daily administrative tasks, including planning, coordinating, and implementing programs and activities while managing volunteers, materials, and programs. This position also consists of a research component in which the candidate will work with the Education Coordinator and Inclusion Support Leader to develop inclusive programming and activities.
 

The successful candidate will work closely with staff and other camp staff while fulfilling the VAC's mandate.

Candidate Profile:

  • Pursuing post-secondary education in recreation planning, Early Childhood Education, sport and recreation management, sports science, Bachelor of Education, or a related field  

  • Returning to full-time studies in the Fall.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with Camp and VAC staff.

  • Ability to work independently and within a team.

  • Ability to understand educational and recreation objectives and lead a team to deliver high-quality experiences.

  • Knowledge of a variety of recreational activities. 

  • Knowledge of studio materials, fine art education,

  • Be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident or have refugee status in Canada; Note: Non-Canadian students holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent resident status are not eligible.

  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada (have a valid social insurance number);

  • Be between 16 and 30 years of age inclusively at the start of employment;

  • Be registered in the YCW online candidate inventory.

  • Valid Police Vulnerable Sector Check.

  • First Aid Training and a Valid Driver's License is also an asset
