Camp Administrator

Wage: $16.55/hr for 37.5 hrs/wk

The Camp Administrator position supports the Visual Art Centre of Clarington in providing essential and engaging summer camp administrative duties to art instructors and kids between the ages of 5-13 who live in Clarington's Municipality and neighbouring regions. The Camp administrator will lead admin, registration, financial and staff scheduling and supervise students for the duration of the VAC summer camp.

The main objective of this project is to offer hands-on experience to post-secondary students of Arts Education, Visual Studies, Art History, or Arts Management interested in pursuing careers in the Canadian cultural sector. This experience will provide the candidate with an overview of the workings of a not-for-profit cultural institution and allow them to develop the critical skills needed to work within this field, specifically in the area of Arts Administration and Education. This position aims to foster opportunities for candidates to succeed as leaders and gain practical teaching skills. The successful candidate will grow as an individual, increasing their confidence and self-esteem by contributing to a team while inspiring creativity and growth from the students in their charge.

Description of Tasks/Responsibilities:

Directly working with the Summer Camp Director and the Education Coordinator in developing staff scheduling, summer budget, health and safety training for staff, staff and volunteer scheduling for the 9 weeks of the 2024 VAC summer camp curriculum. 

  • To successfully implement this program in a safe and organized manner, including managing summer camp programs, staff and volunteers in various mediums, and working in a support role when professional artists lead special programs.  

  • To liaise with parents and document feedback. 

  • To manage and supervise youth volunteers assisting with camp.

  • To be a positive and productive team member.

  • To promote VAC programming to the community. 

  • To regularly meet with and report to supervisors (Camp Director, Education Coordinator, Executive Director) to monitor job performance, expectations, and results.

  • To complete summer camp training with the Summer Camp Director and the Education Coordinator
