Artist's Biography Cai Kui was born in Qingdao, Shandong, China in 1955. He is currently a professor in the Fashion Design Department of Qingdao University, guest professor at the Art Design Department of University of Chinese Defense Science & Technology, and also an art consultant at the Qingdao Oil Painting Academia. An excelled art student in his youth, he started his career as an art designer early 1972. He worked as a teacher at the Art Department of Qingdao University after he graduated with a BA degree in 1984. He also attained a certificate for further study at the China National Art and Craft Institute in Beijing in 1986. He won the Silver Prize in Qingdao Portrait Painting Competition in 1978 and Gold Prize in Shandong Province Oil Painting Exhibition in 1979. Since 1984, he has been teaching art design and instructing graduate students. He has been a longstanding member of the Ontario Society of Artists. He has published many of his works in authoritative Chinese art magazines such as Well-Known Artists and Chinese Oil Painting, Mr. Cai Kui is very well-known for his use of bright, powerful colors strengthened with skillfully descriptive brush-strokes, which express his love of nature.
